Guwahati Jal Board organized Public Awareness Meeting in Nowagaon Area

Guwahati, 1st June 2016: A public Awareness meeting was held on Tuesday at Nowagaon Primary School, Nowagaon, Guwahati. The purpose of this meeting was to create awareness among the residents about the Guwahati water supply project.  
In the meeting the project team emphasized on the core message that after completion of this new water supply project the residents of Guwahati will get 24x7 clean and treated drinking water at their door step with adequate pressure. As a result the age old water woes of Guwahatians will perish forever.
The meeting started with a multimedia presentation detailing current project status, project infrastructures & project benefits, and then followed by an interactive session between the public and the project team members.

In the meeting the residents of the area expressed their concern about the pending pipe line and road restoration work in their area. They also queried about the tariff structure and house connection procedure. In most of the areas of Nowagaon, pipe laying and temporary road restoration has already been done. The residents wanted to know about the left-out areas; where pipe has not been laid yet. They also requested to restore the roads to its’ original condition as soon as possible. The project team answered all the concerned queries of public and also informed that after completion; this project will be fully operated & maintained by “GUWAHATI JAL BOARD “(GJB).

 

Public Awareness Meeting organized by Guwahati Jal Board at Bikash Nagar  Area

Guwahati, 8th March 2016: A public Awareness meeting was held on 8TH March at Bikash nagar Rajahuwa Namghar, Borsajai,Guwahati. The purpose of this meeting was to create awareness among the residents about the new water supply project implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). In the meeting the project team emphasized on the core message that after completion of this new water supply project the residents of Guwahati will get 24x7 clean and treated drinking water with adequate pressure.

The meeting started with the screening of a documentary film which is based on the project, followed by a power point presentation and an interactive session between the public and the project team members. In the meeting the residents of the area expressed their concern about the project completion period. In most of the lanes and by-lanes of Bikash nagar, pipe laying has not been done. The residents wanted to know about the pipe laying schedule and the monthly water tariff. The project team answered all the concerned queries of public and also informed that after completion this project will be fully managed by “GUWAHATI JAL BOARD “(GJB).

 

Guwahati Jal Board to provide 24x7 Pipe Water Supply Services

Guwahati, 1 March 2016: Matia  is a  very thickly populated hilly area near Deepor Beel. Almost all the households of this  area is connected with PHED water supply services. Despite this they have to depend  mostly on Deepor Beel for their daily water requirement. Their is  a huge demand of drinking water in the area. Their water related problem was  widely discussed in a public awareness meeting organized by Guwahati Jal Board  on 29 february 2016.
The meeting was held in Anan Ingti Primary School where the project team informed the public that their house will soon be connected with piped water supply. The construction of new water supply infrastructures and pipe line works of Guwahati Water Supply Project are now on full swing. With the completion of this project people of Guwahati will get 24x7 water supply at their door step. The project officials further informed that now the project is implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and after completion of this new water supply services the operation and maintenance for the whole city will be managed by Guwahati Jal Board.

A huge number of people gathered in the meeting where the Guwahati water supply project officials briefed the public about the new water supply services that will soon going to benefit them with regular supply and also with adequate pressure. Entire Guwahati to be connected with 24x7 Pipe Water Supply Services

Guwahati, 19 February 2016: At present one of the major problem faced by Guwahatians  is drinking water scarcity. So far entire Guwahati was not connected with pipes water supply services. As such city denizens are fulfilling their daily water needs by constructing individual ring wells, hand pupms, bore wells etc. A large number of people spends huge amount in purchasing water through private water tankers. This has become a common scenario in the city right now. This same problem exist in Chakardo area near Deepor Beel, where people are facing acute drinking water scarcity. Their problem has been widely discussed in a public meeting organized by Guwahati Jal Board  on 18 february 2016.
The meeting was held in Chakardo Public Hall where the project team informed the public that their house will soon be connected with piped water supply. Construction of new water supply infrastructures and pipe line works of the Guwahati Water Supply Project are now on full swing. With the completion of this project people of Guwahati will get 24x7 water supply services at their door step. New Water Supply Projects will cover entire Guwahati & Benefit ‘ALL’

Guwahati, 12 February 2016: Residing right in the heart of the City- Chilarai Nagar an area, where people spend huge amount of money every day to purchase water from the private water tankers.Residents of Chilarai nagar of Bhangagarh area are deprived of the very basic amenity of life-that is Water.With no any pipe water supply facility,people are forced to fulfill their water requirements by purchasing water on daily basis. They are in search of an alternative means to fulfill their day to day water necessity with minimum cost implication.

Keeping in view the growing water requirement of the people of Guwahati, the State Government has come up with a giagantic water supply project i.e Guwahati Water Supply Project. This project has been divided into four parts and all the four projects are now implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). Completion of these projects will provide the entire Guwahati with 24X7 potable drinking water supply.

Inorder to disseminate this project related information, one public awareness meeting was held in Chilarai nagar,Bhangagarh on 11th February afternoon. The Guwahati water supply project officials briefed the public gathered there about the new regular water supply services with adequate pressure which will soon be available at their door step. The project officials further informed that meanwhile the state Government has already formed the Guwahati Jal Board which will be responsible for overall operation and maintenance of this new water supply services after completion of these four new water supply projects.

Guwahati, 30 January 2016: A public awareness meeting was held on 29th of January,2016 at Dholbama near Garchuk by Guwahati Jal Board.The people of Dholbama are facing acute drinking water scarcity as there is no any  pipe water supply  facility in the area.As such they have to depend on ring wells and hand pumps to  satify their water need.The people of this area were delighted to  know about the Guwahati Water Supply Project which will soon bring an end to their drinking water problem.

Guwahati Jal Board organizes Public Awareness Meeting in Pamohi

Guwahati, 28 January 2016: Now most of the drinking water sources like ring well and bore-well have started drying up gradually with the onset of Winter. This has doubled the drinking water problem of Guwahatians and they are now eagerly waiting for a permanent solution to this drinking water crisis.
As the construction of new water supply infrastructures and pipe line works of the Guwahati Water Supply Project are now on full swing for completion; the people are very much hopeful for early commissioning of the projects and getting 24 X 7 potable drinking water supply at their door step. This was stated to the residents of Pamohi at a public awareness meeting organized by Guwahati Jal Board on 27th January 2016 at Moinakhurung M.V School.
In the meeting  the project team informed the public that, their house will be connected through piped water supply soon. As their area comes under the South West Guwahati Water Supply Project, which is scheduled to be commissioned in this year itself.

Moreover drinking water condition of all the denizens residing in hilly areas of the city is more vulnerable. They are spending a lot every month for buying drinking water.  Their water related problems has been widely discussed in a public meeting held in Lokabandhu Nagar Namghar here on Tuesday.
A huge number of people gathered at the meeting. The officials of Guwahati Jal Board and Guwahati  Water supply project briefed the public that, the drinking water problem of the city will soon be solved. They informed the public that the  Government of Assam has started a visionary water supply project, by which people of Guwahati will be provided 24 hours potable piped water supply services at their door step with adequate pressure.
Now Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority is implementing four new state of the art drinking water Supply Projects for the benefit of the entire population of Guwahati. After completion of these new projects water supply services along with operation and maintenance for the whole city will be managed by Guwahati Jal Board. The project officials informed that, Kahilipara area comes under south central Guwahati water supply project and the pipe laying work will soon be completed in the entire area. The project officials also appealed for public co-operation for successful implementation of pipe laying and other subsidiary construction works.

They get piped drinking water service from Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) for which they have to pay a very nominal charge on yearly basis along with the GMC taxes. But the water requirements of the people of Uzanbazar area cannot be fulfilled with this very old and ever deficient water supply services. With the rapid growth of the locality water shortage has become a major crisis in this area. The residents of this area are forced to purchase water through private water tankers  by incurring huge investments. It is sure all cannot able also to afford in constructing their own wells and individual bore wells as well. Guwahati, 24 December 2015: Chenikuthi(Uzanbazar),one of the oldest zone of Guwahati is a very thickly populated area.In the recent years there has been a rapid growth of business establishments  and housing  societies in the area.Although the area has developed  but the water need of the people has not been  fulfilled completely. The area is covered under GMC water supply scheme and almost all the houses of the area has this water connection.But inspite of this water supply there is huge water scarcity in the area. Residents of the area are compelled to purchase water from the private water tankers to fulfill their water necessity. In order to discuss the water related problem of the people, Guwahati Jal Board organized a Public Awareness Meeting  on 23rd December at Mr.Mukul Sharma’s Residence in Chenikuthi Hill Side.
In the meeting the locals put forward their problems and urged the Guwahati Jal Board team to solve their drinking water crisis. In the meeting the project officials informed the public about the ongoing Guwahati Water Supply Project, implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority(GMDA). People residing in the hill side of Narkasur area is deprived of sufficient  potable drinking water.The only source of water in this area is a single water supply connection provided by PHED to the school authority.People residing in and around the school take water from the school premises. Their water related problems has been widely discussed in a public meeting held in Indrapur L.P School here on Thursday.

As the construction of new water supply infrastructures and pipe line works of the Guwahati Water Supply Project are now on full swing for completion; the people are very much hopeful for early commissioning of the projects and getting 24 X 7 potable drinking water supply at their door step. This is stated by the residents of Anand Nagar (Pandu) at a public awareness meeting organized by Guwahati Jal Board on 26th November 2015.
In the meeting  the project team informed the public that, they are going to be connected through piped water supply in the 1st phase of commissioning of the project. As their area comes under the South West Guwahati Water Supply Project, which is scheduled to be commissioned in next few months.

Despite of the large population residing from a very long time in this area, they are virtually deprived from the very basic requirement of life that is sufficient Potable Drinking Water. Residents here some how managing and thus surviving with community ring wells and bore wells for their daily water requirements. No effort what so ever has been taken from the Government to provide any kind of piped water supply facilities to this area. As such people of this locality are facing acute crisis of potable drinking water.
All this problem has been narrated by the residents of Krishna Kanta Handique Nagar in a public awareness meeting organized by the Guwahati Jal Board. The meeting was organized in the Bihu field of the area  with the help of local Unnayan Committee. A huge number of people gathered at the meeting. Guwahati, September 21: Pan Bazar, comprising of both commercial and  residential complexes is one of the most densly polpulated area of the Guwahati City. People of this area get water from the existing GMC Water Supply Services. But it does not cater to the 100% population of the entire Pan bazar area mostly to the people residing the hilly areas. The current problem as stated by the resident is the intermittent and low pressured water supply in the area. This has been recently discussed in a public meeting organized by Guwahati Jal Borad at Sanatan Dharma Sabha (Hari Sabha), one of the oldest socio-cultural institutions of Guwahati.
In the meeting the project officials brifed the public that, the drinking water problem of the city will soon be solved. They informed the public that the  Government of Assam has started a visionary water supply project, by which people of Guwahati will be provided 24 hours potable piped water supply services at their door step with adequate pressure.

Entire Guwahati to get 24x7  drinking water supply services soon

Guwahati, September 15th: Most of the residents of Guwahati are now living with acute shortage of drinking water. Moreover drinking water condition of all the denizens residing in the outskirts of the city is more vulnerable. Despite the existing three water supply services residents of Guwahati are spending a huge amount of money for buying drinking water. To solve this pertinent and continuing drinking water problem, the project authorities of the ongoing Guwahati Water Supply project are trying hard to complete the project on the set scheduled stipulated timeline.
To make the people aware about the benefits of the project, the project team of Guwahati Jal Board has been constantly organising public awareness meetings in every part of the city. One such meeting was held on  Monday, i.e. on 14th September 2015 at Gug Garughuli Yuva Sangha, Garughuli, Garchuk near Delhi Public School at around 4 PM.
The concern officials of Guwahati Water Supply Project, present in the meetings assured the people gathered there that, to overcome this age old drinking water problem of Guwahati; Government of Assam has started a visionary water supply project, by which all the people of Guwahati will be provided 24 hours potable piped water supply services at their door step with adequate pressure.

Huge Gathering at Guwahati Jal Board’s Public Awareness Meeting

Guwahati, September 1: Most of the residents of Guwahati are now living with acute shortage of drinking water. Moreover drinking water condition of all the denizens residing in hilly areas of the city is more vulnerable. They are spending a lot every month for buying drinking water. It is now highly essential for the Government to solve this problem on priority as soon as possible by speeding up the ongoing Guwahati Water Supply Project.
Residents of Ujjal Nagar, Tiwa Nagar, Kailashpur and adjacent areas have raised these above mentioned concerns at a public awareness meeting organized by Guwahati Jal Board on last Sunday, i.e. on 30th August 2015 at Ujjalnagar Namghar. Similarly another public awareness meeting also organized at Srimanta Shankar Kristi Kendra, Mathuranagar on 31st August 2015 at around 4 PM.
The officials of Guwahati Water Supply Project, present in both these meetings assured the people gathered there that, to overcome this age old drinking water problem of Guwahati; Government of Assam has started a visionary water supply project, by which all the people of Guwahati will be provided 24 hours potable piped water supply services at their door step with adequate pressure. Public Awareness Meeting at Athgaon

Guwahati, 08 May: Recently an awareness meeting was held at around 4.30 pm at Sarbajanin Puja Mandap, Athgaon in collaboration with local key perosns and members of the puja committee, to inform the people of the locality about the Guwahati Water Supply Project,the construction of which is under progress.
This area comes under South Central Guwahati Water Supply Project and the residents of that area will get drinking water through 24x7 Pipe Water Supply Scheme with adequate pressure. The project is now implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). After completion it will be managed, operated and maintained by Guwahati Jal Board which will function with aid and advice of the State Government only.
The meeting started with the introduction of the project, followed with screening of a documentary film which is based on the on-going activities of the project, a power point presentation highlighting about various components of the new water supply project.

During the interaction session the residents of that locality expressed that pipe laying in this area should be done in night only, as it is a commercial area. Any major construction work in the day time will hamper their business and will also cause serious problem to many residents. They raised queries regarding the project completion period and water treatment process. They also showed their concern regarding the future status of the existing piped water supply system. In general, the residents has expressed their happiness for the up-coming new water supply project.

Guwahati, 24 March: No registration forms have been issued so far by Guwahati Jal Board for registering consumers to avail new water supply connection under Guwahati Water Supply Project. The project officials told this during a public awareness meeting organized at Dakhin Barsajai Maidam Durga Mandir in Lalmati area of the city.
Some people in the meeting informed that they have been approached by some unknown persons to fill up a registration form to get new water supply connection under Guwahati Water Supply Project. While addressing this issue the project officials told the gathering that no such forms have been issued so far and it will be known to each and every resident of Guwahati through various publicity medium, once such forms issued.
The public meeting was organized to create awareness among the residents about the new water supply project implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). The project team informed public that after completion of this new water supply project the residents of Guwahati will get 24x7 clean and treated drinking water with adequate pressure.

Even Ring wells and tubewells does not work in this area so  residents of the area  are forced to dig  borewells, which is a very  expensive affair. Those who cannot afford to dig borewells they have to depend upon their neighbours for drinking water. One public Awareness meeting was held on 16 December 2014 at Sri Sri Shankardev Namghar Shishu Udyaan Granthagar, Guwahati. The meeting started with the screening of a documentary film which is based on the project, followed by a power point presentation and an interactive session between the public and the project team members. In the meeting the residents of the area expressed their concern about the slow work progress in the area. In most of the lanes and by-lanes of Nabin nagar, pipe laying has not been done. The residents wanted to know about the pipe laying schedule and the pipe distribution network of that area. The project team answered all the concerned queries of public and also informed that; this project will be fully managed by “GUWAHATI JAL BOARD “(GJB) which is under the State Government of Assam.

Public Awareness meeting on Guwahati Water Supply Project was held on Thursday at Guwahati Srimanta Sankardev Kristi Bikash Kendra, Rajgarh. The purpose of the meeting was to create awareness among the residents about the new water supply project implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). In the meeting the project team emphasized on the core message that after completion of this new water supply project the residents of Guwahati will get 24x7 clean and treated drinking water with adequate pressure. It was reflected in the meeting that people are eagerly waiting for potable drinking water of Guwahati Water Supply Project.

The meeting started with the screening of a documentary film which is based on the project, followed by a power point presentation and an interactive session between the public and the project team members. In the meeting the residents of the area expressed their concern about the technical sustainability of the project and the amount of water a person will receive per day. And also expressed their concern if there will be any panel rate when excess amount of water is used. They mentioned that they had received adequate amount of water from the water supply provided by GMC and AUWSSB at the initial stage of the connection but it has degraded in its quality as time passed by. So their conviction about the new water supply project is quite low based on their past experience.  According to them the water meters installed by AUWSSB was stolen so they are concerned what will be the financial involvement and security measures for the water meter of this new water supply connection. They also raised their concerns for the incomplete pipe laying work in some bye-lanes of their area and the delay in road restoration. Public Awareness meeting was held on November 12 at Baboor Rajahuwa Bhawan   with active support from Pub Sarumotoria Unnayan Samity. The purpose of this meeting was to create awareness among the residents about the new water supply project implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority. In the meeting the project team emphasized on the core message that after completion of this new water supply project the residents of Guwahati will get clean and treated drinking water with adequate pressure.
The meeting started with the screening of a documentary film which is based on the project, followed by a power point presentation and an interactive session between the public and the project team members. An Awareness meeting was held on 17 October 2014, at Nabajiban Sangha,Hedayetpur, Guwahati  in collaboration with the local Club, to inform the people of the locality about the Guwahati Water Supply Project, the construction of which is under progress.
This area comes under South Central Guwahati Water Supply Project and the residents of that area will get drinking water through 24x7 Pipe Water Supply Scheme with adequate pressure. The project is now implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). After completion it will be managed, operated and maintained by Guwahati Jal Board which will function with aid and advice of the State Government only.
The meeting started with the introduction of the project, followed with screening of a documentary film which is based on the on-going activities of the project, a power point presentation highlighting about various components of the new water supply project.

During the interaction session the residents of that locality expressed that at present the area has GMC water supply system and almost all the households of that area are dependent on it. They raised their concern, whether the new water supply system will replace the present GMC Water supply system. They wanted to know about the connection procedure for this new water supply. They also raised queries regarding the metering tariff structure and the water treatment procedure. Few residents of that locality gave some valuable suggestion for the water treatment process and it was well acknowledged by the project team. In general, the residents have expressed their happiness for the up-coming new water supply project.

One Awareness meeting was organized recently at Lalsingh Primary School, Kharghuli area to sensitise public about the Guwahati Water Supply Project.
Kharghuli area comes under South Central Guwahati Water Supply Project and the residents of this area will get drinking water through the new 24x7 Pipe Water Supply Scheme with adequate pressure. It is to be noted that Government of Assam has initiated four Water Supply Projects using all available modern technology while constructing of infrastructures, laying of pipe lines with state of art technology with regular operation, maintenance and management system.
The project is now implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). After completion it will be managed / operated and maintained by Guwahati Jal Board which will function with aid and advice of the State Government only.
The meeting was attended by Captain Robin Bordoloi, Chairman GMDA, along with Councillors Deepa Hazarika, Balendra Bharali , Asima Bordoloi and leading citizen of the area. The meeting started with a brief introduction by the local councilor followed by a Power Point presentation describing the project details by the project officials.
During the interaction, the residents of Kharghuli area raised concerns regarding the ongoing construction work. Their main concern was slow road restoration process causing lots of inconveniences. They also informed the project team that the main drainage system of the area has been blocked due to the project construction work and appealed that immediate action need to be taken up to remove the said drain blockage, for avoiding water logging in the area. As suggested by the Chairman, GMDA a Coordination Committee was formed, involving members from the project and the local Residents. The main purpose of this Committee is to ascertain co-ordination between the project team and local residents during the project implementation.

4th March 2014, Guwahati Water Supply Project to Provide Potable Piped Water Supply
Residents of Kadam Ali Path of Katahbari Area, which comes under South-West Guwahati Water Supply Project, will get potable 24X7 Piped Water Supply Services with Adequate Pressure. The Government of Assam has initiated four Water Supply Projects with brand new infrastructures and pipe lines with state of the art Operation / Management and maintenance system to address the present as well as future water needs of this fast developing city. In order to create mass awareness about the on-going projects a public consultation meeting has been organized at Gyan Bikash Jatiya Vidyalaya, Kadam Ali Path in Katahbari area, on 4th March 2014 by Institutional Capacity Development Consultants (ICDC), which has been engaged by GMDA to conduct public awareness campaign for the project.
The project is now implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). After completion it will be managed / operated and maintained by Guwahati Jal Board which will function with aid and advice of the State Government only.

21st February 2014, Katahbari Area to get Potable Piped Water Supply
Residents of Katahbari, which comes under South-West Guwahati area, will get potable 24X7 Piped Water Supply Services with Adequate Pressure. The Government of Assam has initiated four Water Supply Projects with brand new infrastructures and pipe lines with state of the art operation and maintenance system to address the water need of this fast developing city.
The project is now implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). After completion it will be operated and maintained by Guwahati Jal Board. In order to create mass awareness about the on-going projects a public consultation meeting has been organized at Katahbari Prathamik Vidyalaya on 21st February 2014 by Institutional Capacity Development Consultants (ICDC), which has been engaged by GMDA to conduct public awareness campaign for the project.
This meeting which attended by 60 local persons, started with the screening of a documentary film of 15 minutes duration which is based on the project on-going activities, followed by a PowerPoint presentation describing in details about various components of the new water supply project. 15th February 2014, Public Awareness Meeting organized by Guwahati Water Supply in Pub Boragaon.
The Guwahati Water Supply Project held a public consultation meeting at Prathamik Vidyalaya in Pub Boragaon area, Guwahati on 15th February (Saturday) 2014. The purpose of the meeting, which was attended by about 50 residents of the area- To create awareness amongst the public about the New Water Supply project implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). The GMDA has engaged Institutional Capacity Development Consultants (ICDC) to conduct public awareness campaign for the project.

Residents of Southwest Guwahati will get 24x7 clean and treated drinking water with adequate pressure by the end of next year. As because, this gigantic Guwahati water supply project, implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is to be commissioned first in Southwest Guwahati area. Work in this area is being carried out with financial assistance from Central Government’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM). For creating awareness and to consult with local residents of Kamakhya Nagar Colony of Adabari-Tiniali, an awareness meeting had been organized at Kamakhya Nagar Puja Mandap, at 3.00 pm, on Saturday 21 December 2013.

The meeting started with a multimedia presentation, describing in details about the project followed by screening of a documentary film; based on the project. An interaction session was also organized by the project team, in which local public got a chance to clarify their queries. The project team informed the public that this project is totally owned by the State Government. 17th July, 2013 , Guwahati Water Supply Project organizes  Public Awareness Meeting in Ganeshpara Area
A public awareness meeting was organized by Guwahati Water Supply at Milanjyoti Sangha in Ganeshpara Area, Guwahati at 4.00pm on 17th July, 2013 (Wednesday). The purpose of the meeting was to inform the public about the ongoing water supply project and to build public support for and understanding of the pipe laying work underway in the city. The project team informed the public that, the project when completed will bring clean potable water with high pressures to every household throughout the city on 24x7 basis.
In the meeting the project team informed the public that this project is totally owned by the State Government. JICA (a funding agency under the Government of Japan) has provided loan to the state government for implementation of this project. The “JAL BOARD” will be the sole authority and it will function with aid and advice of the State Government only. They also informed that, the final customer registration forms for water connection is not yet issued by the project and that public should strictly avoid buying any such forms sold by anybody.
During the interactive session many participants raised questions with regard to the coverage of the project-whether water pipes will be laid in all the hilly areas and all the lanes, by-lanes of the city. They also enquired about the documents required for water connection and whether water connection will be given to all citizens of Guwahati irrespective of people residing in the plains and in the hills of the city. Through this meeting the Contractors and the consultants tried to respond to the inquiries and concerns of the residents. In the said meeting the project team informed the public that the final customer registration forms for water connection is not yet issued by the project and that public should strictly avoid buying any such forms sold by anybody.

The purpose of the meeting, attended by about 70 residents, was to build public support for and understanding of the pipe laying work underway in the area. A few residents complained about the difficulty and slow road restoration of the by lanes. The contractors and the consultants explained the standard construction procedure and their obligation to refill the road within the same day except unavoidable circumstances. They also solicited public patience for full restoration due to the need for hydraulic testing to minimize future leakage. The project team also provided contact phone numbers in case of any problems and promised prompt communication with the affected citizens. In the said meeting the project team informed the public that the final customer registration forms for water connection is not yet issued by the project and that public should strictly avoid buying any such forms sold by anybody.
The project when completed will bring clean potable water with adequate pressures to every household throughout the city on 24x7 basis by the year 2016. To achieve its goal the Project needs to build approximately 2000km pipe networks. It is an unparalleled undertaking anywhere in India.

The Guwahati Water Supply Project held a public Consultation meeting at Shree Shree Navagraha Smashan Kali Mandir in Navagraha area here on Wednesday. The purpose of the meeting that was attended by around 30 residents was to inform the public about the ongoing water supply project and to build public support for and understanding of the pipe laying work underway in the city. Through this meeting the Contractors and the consultants tried to respond to the inquiries and concerns of the residents.
The current Guwahati Water Supply Project will provide 24x7 safe, potable drinking water to 100% household of Guwahati city with adequate pressure by 2016. To achieve its goal the project needs to build approximately 2000km distribution pipeline networks.
During the interactive session participants raised lots of question about the existing water supply connections and what will be the status of these existing pipelines after the implementation of this new project. They have also appealed the project team to complete the project in its due time and that pipe laying work should be carried out without disturbing the underground utilities. A Public Awareness Meeting was organized by Guwahati Water Supply Project, on 25th November 2012 (Sunday) at Lal Ganesh Kali Mandir, Guwahati at 4.30 pm. The purpose of the meeting was to inform the public about the ongoing water supply project and to build public support for and understanding of the pipe laying work underway in the city. Through this meeting the Contractors and the consultants tried to respond to the inquiries and concerns of the residents and to create a good communication network between the community and the project. The project team also displayed phone numbers of the concerned contractor and PMC-PIU engineers to contact in case of any problem and promised prompt communication with the citizens.
The current Guwahati Water Supply Project will provide 24x7 safe, potable drinking water to 100% household of Guwahati city with adequate pressure by 2016. For this massive project, around 2000kms pipe line has to be laid down all over the city. In the said meeting the consultants and the contractors assured that the pipe laying work will be carried out with minimum inconvenience to the local residents.
The meeting was organized with the help of the local Puja committee of Lal Ganesh area. The meeting had a huge gathering of around 150 people, comprising mainly senior citizens, women and local residents of that area. A Public Awareness Meeting have been organized by Guwahati Water Supply Project, on 4th November 2012 (Sunday) at Binovanagar L.P School in Kahilipara Colony Bazaar area of Guwahati at 4.00 pm. The purpose of the meeting was to inform the public about the ongoing water supply project and to build public support for and understanding of the pipe laying work underway in the city. Through this meeting the Contractors and the consultants tried to respond to the inquiries and concerns of the residents and to create a good communication network between the community and the project. The project team also displayed phone numbers of the concerned contractor and PMC-PIU engineers to contact in case of any problem and promised prompt communication with the citizens.
The current Guwahati Water Supply Project will provide 24x7 safe, potable drinking water to 100% household of Guwahati city with adequate pressure by 2016. For this massive project, around 2000kms pipe line has to be laid down all over the city. As the pipe laying work has already started in different parts of the city, people have raised their concern regarding the slow restoration of roads and the damage done to the roads. In the said meeting the consultants and the contractors assured that the road restoration will be done on the same day and work will be carried out with minimum inconvenience to local residents

The meeting was organized with the help of one local club of that area. The meeting had a huge gathering of around 130 people, comprising mainly senior citizens, women and local residents of that area. During the interactive session many participants have raised lots of question with regard to how and when the Water Supply work will be done and what will be the tariff structure. They have also appealed and suggested the project to display the pipe work plan and to construct a new reservoir in Kahilipara area. Towards the end of the meeting a customer pre-registration exercise was carried out, to record the existing water supply and waste water treatment situation in the locality. It was also informed that the project will continue to organize similar type of meetings in different parts of the city to solicit public cooperation.

16 October 2012, Public Awareness Meeting Under JICA Guwahati Water Supply Project 
A Public Consultation meeting was organized by Guwahati Water Supply Project, on 16 October 2012 at Narakasur L.P  School in Narakasur area of Guwahati. The purpose of the meeting, attended by 40 residents, was to build public support for and understanding of the pipe laying work underway in the city. A few residents complained about the disturbance and slow restoration of the by lanes. The contractors and the consultants explained the standard construction procedure and their obligation to refill the road within the same day. The Consultants along with the Project Implementation Unit in this public consultation meeting, assured the residents of minimum inconvenience to be caused to them while the pipe laying works will be carried out and thus they were requested for their support and cooperation.
In the  meeting the residents of the area were informed about the salient features of the project i.e. 24x7 supply of potable water to 100% households of Guwahati city with adequate pressure by 2016. Since at present the water supply coverage to Guwahati city is less than 30%, and so in order to achieve 100% coverage, GMDA is implementing three projects funded by JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission), JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and ADB (Asian Development Bank) and on completion, the operation of these projects will be brought under a single Agency Guwahati Jal Board.

The meeting which went on for about one hour proved to be productive as the inputs given by the residents will help the project authorities to plan the project implementation works with minimum inconvenience to the local residents.. It was also informed that the Project will continue to organize similar type of meetings in different parts of the city to solicit public co-operation.

A public consultation  meeting  was organized for the Guwahati Water Supply Project, on 7th October 2012 at Blue Pine School in Pub Sarania area of Guwahati. The residents of the area were informed about the salient features of the project viz.., 24x7 supply of potable water to 100% households of Guwahati city with adequate pressure by 2016 and appealed for public support and cooperation.
Since at present the water supply coverage to Guwahati city is less than 30%, and so in order to achieve 100% coverage, GMDA is implementing three projects funded by JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission), JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and ADB (Asian Development Bank) and on completion, the operation of these projects will be brought under a single Agency Guwahati Jal Board.
The Consultants along with the Project Implementation Unit, in this public consultation meeting disseminated information about the project and assured that the pipeline works will be carried out with  minimum inconvenience to the residents  and thus they were requested for their support and cooperation, considering the long terms benefits from the project.
The meeting was attended by a large number of local residents and it went on for about one hour. During the interactive  session, the residents provided their valuable inputs which will help the project authorities to plan the project implementation works with minimum inconvenience to the local residents.
Towards the end of the meeting a customer pre-registration exercise was carried out, to record the existing water supply and waste water treatment situation in the locality. The residents were assured that they will get adequate quantity of water with pressure, as the project has been designed, considering the future requirements.

It was also informed that the Project will continue to organize similar type of meetings in different parts of the city to solicit public co-operation.
